Tire Pressure
Proper tire pressure is important for a safe and efficient drive. With the correct pressure in your truck tires, you’ll drive more fuel-efficiently, your tires will wear more evenly, and you’ll reduce the risk of breakdowns on the road.

How many bar in a truck tire
The correct tire pressure for a truck tire varies by vehicle, axle, and application. There is no fixed value that applies to every situation, but the pressure specified by the manufacturer is always the starting point.
A slight deviation of about half a bar is usually still acceptable, but it must be corrected as soon as possible. If the pressure is more than 0.6 bar below the recommended value, this must be corrected immediately. If the pressure is more than 1 bar below the recommended value, it becomes unsafe, and the tire must be removed and inspected for possible damage.
On the other hand, tire pressures above 10 bar are generally not recommended for use on the highway.
Why is proper tire pressure important?
Proper tire pressure ensures the correct distribution of pressure within the tire, maintaining optimal contact with the road surface. This means better traction, stable handling, and a shorter braking distance. In addition, you’ll drive more fuel-efficiently: underinflation increases rolling resistance, leading to higher fuel consumption and faster tire wear.
Incorrect tire pressure therefore not only increases the cost per kilometer but also raises the risk of breakdowns or damage while driving. Even a small difference in pressure can have significant consequences in practice.
What happens if tire pressure is too low or too high?
When tire pressure is too low, rolling resistance increases. The tire gets hotter and wears out much faster. Fuel consumption rises, and the risk of damage or even a blowout increases. Low tire pressure is one of the main causes of breakdowns on the road and unnecessary costs.
If tire pressure is too high, the tire doesn’t make proper contact with the road surface. This results in reduced traction and a longer braking distance, and the tire wears unevenly. You’ll often notice this in terms of ride comfort and handling.
Tip: Roadside assistance is part of our tire service at Mijnheer Truckbanden. If you have tire problems, we’ll get you back on the road right away—and, of course, we guarantee the replacement tires.
Why does a tire lose pressure?
It’s normal for a truck tire to lose pressure over time due to natural air exchange through the rubber and temperature fluctuations: in cold weather, pressure drops faster; in warm weather, it rises. In addition, there are factors that can accelerate pressure loss.
A tire can lose pressure due to:
- A puncture that penetrates the tire’s structure.
- Air leakage at the valve or between the valve and the rim.
- Air leakage between the rim and the tire bead.

Tire Pressure Chart
The ideal tire pressure varies by axle and load. In our tire pressure chart, you’ll find guideline values that you can use as a starting point. These are general values; always follow the pressure specified by your vehicle or tire manufacturer.

How often should tire pressure be checked?
For trucks, it’s advisable to check tire pressure once a week, and definitely before a long trip. Regular checks help detect abnormalities early and prevent problems on the road. This is also confirmed by manufacturers such as Michelin.
Check the pressure when the tires are cold—that is, at ambient temperature and before departure. Use a calibrated pressure gauge and check all tires, including the spare. Tires on the same axle should always have approximately the same pressure. Even with TPMS, a manual check remains necessary.
Tire Pressure and Durability
The ideal tire pressure helps save fuel and reduce CO₂ emissions.
Proper tire pressure ensures that tires last longer. That means fewer replacements, less consumption of raw materials, and less downtime. In practice, even small differences in pressure have a significant impact on durability and costs.
